Forestry and Arboriculture Training

NPC Training is the place to come if you are looking for qualifications in forestry and/or arboriculture. We offer the full range of Lantra Awards Training courses and it doesn't matter if you have had several years experience or are a complete novice; whether you want to add to your existing skills or start from the beginning. For occasional users the basic courses can be assessed and lead to a Lantra Awards Certificate of Basic Skills while, for professional users, the courses prepare you for an assessment that leads to a Licence To Practice. The courses cover the following:

  1. Chainsaws - all operations including maintenance for the occasional or professional user.
  2. Utility Arboriculture - including site safety awareness.
  3. Ground-Based Arboriculture - woodchippers, stump grinders etc.
  4. Aerial Tree Work - from climbing and rescue to pruning and dismantling.
  5. Brushcutters, Trimmers and Clearing Saws - your choice.

Refresher training is also available to keep your skills up to date.

The courses are for anyone who is or intends to work with a chainsaw on the ground or in the tree. Examples will include:

Used correctly, chainsaws and allied cutting equipment are very versatile tools with a variety of uses. Aerial tree work is an essential part of arboricultural work. However, these activities are also potentially very dangerous. Serious accidents can and do occur without the right training or because operators have not kept their skills up to scratch. Training is a legal requirement. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require employers to provide adequate training and to ensure that chainsaws and related equipment are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training in their safe use. Anyone working in or on trees is expected to hold a recognised qualification. If you are self-employed, these regulations also apply to you.
All courses are registered with Lantra Awards who have over 40 years experience of developing training courses like these. Our Director, Mr Nick Cartwright, has over 30 years experience of training and assessing people from all backgrounds in the safe and effective use of machines and equipment. The courses are also delivered by Lantra Awards Instructors who have both teaching and industrial experience. The courses are all mapped to National Occupational Standards so that you can be sure that what you are learning are the most up to date and safe working practices. Full training materials are supplied as part of the course.
